The Health Management Library
The Health Management Library is a free library and information service for all healthcare staff working within NHS Scotland. The Library specialises in the non-clinical aspects of healthcare and holds resources to support healthcare planning, policy, management and service redesign.
The Health Management Library can provide you with information and resources to support various aspects of healthcare planning, policy, management and redesign.

Library and Information Services available to all NHS Scotland Staff
- Literature Search Service:
Expert literature searches can be carried out by the team’s experienced information professionals, using the Library’s extensive database, a range of online databases and web research.
- Loan and Document Delivery Service:
The Library holds over 14,000 books, reports and policy documents and subscribes to 180 current journal titles. A full lending, photocopying and downloading service is available. Wherever you work in NHS Scotland all items will be posted or emailed directly to you.
- Reference Enquiries:
The Library team will endeavour to answer your quick and reference enquiries using the Library's unique collection and expert knowledge of retrieving information.
- Training Materials:
The Library holds a collection of video-based training programmes essential for the delivery of training, in areas such as change management, diversity, performance appraisal and teamwork. These are available for loan and can be booked in advance.
Tailored resource lists can be prepared in advance to support training events.
- Current Awareness Service:
In order to keep up to date with fast moving healthcare issues, the Library produces a monthly current awareness bulletin. This free bulletin provides details of new reports, journal articles, books and policy documents added to the Library stock. The bulletin can be emailed or posted directly to you.
- Training:
The Library team provides specialist training for groups and individuals on accessing and using online management resources.
- Online Services:

- Link to over 400 UK and Worldwide healthcare management resources.
- Access healthcare policy and strategy documents from all the UK Health Departments.
- Download up-to-date reading lists on essential management skills, such as leadership, change management and risk management.
