South East Network joins digital age

Managers in Lothian, Fife and the Borders can now find out about and book for MDN events in their area by going straight to the South East Network’s very own new website and blog at http://mdnsoutheast.wordpress.com.

Just a couple of clicks will not only allow you to book online for any MDN event, but also to add it directly to your own email calendar. Information about times, venues, locations and event content are all instantly accessible. The new site also includes reports and presentations from previous events, as well as information about follow-up activities to Network events - such as the Social Innovation Camp, which will appeal to anyone who enjoyed Ann McFadyen’s sessions on social entrepreneurship. You can also comment about Network activities directly on the site by adding comments to blog posts.

SE Network Facilitator, Beverley Beasant, is keen to hear what users think about the site. “Let me have your views,” she says, “Was it easy to find, do you like the site, have you tried to register, did you have any problems? Either email me with any comments or queries or even better why not blog me through the site!” The website also makes it even easier to pass on the word about the Network to colleagues – simply forward the link to other managers in your area.

A new approach to wellbeing and confidence

Dr Carol Craig, chief executive of the Centre for Confidence and Wellbeing and a well-known commentator on the psychology of confidence in Scots and Scotland, brings her “positive psychology” to Lanarkshire on 25 June, with a Network event that will explore the
concept of wellbeing - in yourself, with others and organisationally.

Dr Craig will look at how high quality outcomes can be achieved and the morale of staff, as individuals and in teams, can be improved by a holistic approach to building optimism, confidence, self-belief and a sense of purpose. MDN Facilitator for Lanarkshire, the Golden Jubilee Hospital and NHS24, Madeleine O’Brien, says that the topic shouldn’t be considered to be ’touchy-feely’ or just about aspects of individual wellbeing, but that there are clear, practical insights and lessons that can help managers achieve improvements in patient care. “The session will be a challenge to all to consider how a holistic approach to creating and sustaining well being and confidence can make an impact on the "hard " side of target achievement i.e. quality outcomes for staff and service users alike!” she says.
Full details of the event can be found on the attached flyer.

Maximise the impact of your communications

Managers in the West of Scotland region (Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Ayrshire & Arran, Dumfries & Galloway) have the opportunity to attend a workshop led by Cordelia Ditton, whose ‘voicebusiness’ consultancy has built a reputation for uncovering expertise in personal communications that you didn’t know you had.
A former actor, Cordelia offers often surprising insights into the ways in which your personal presentation style impacts on your relationships with others and your ability to make yourself understood and create connections. Full details of the workshop on 2 June in Fenwick, Ayrshire are on the attached flyer.
