Welcome to IHM Wales Division
The Welsh Division of the Institute represents approaching 500 managers from the whole spectrum of the health sector across Wales. I have had the honour to chair the Welsh Divisional Council for a number of years and believe the Division has enjoyed a great deal of success in that time through its commitment to support managers through selective training and development programmes, member conferences and topical Branch events. I have been ably supported by a team of dedicated Council members, energetic and committed Branch committees and, until the last two years, by a part-time Business Manager who has helped drive forward our exciting agenda. In recent times, the Division’s financial position has suffered and for the future a key objective will be to restore our previous financial security to enable us to employ some business management resource to help re-invigorate member services and grow our membership base. It goes without saying that the NHS in Wales operates differently than in England (and not just because of the Welsh Language Act!) and I know that my local members want to see the IHM as a flexible and responsive organisation that recognises those differences and their impact on them.
I have been a member of the Institute for longer than I care to remember but I remain firmly of the opinion that the objectives of the IHM remain hugely relevant to managers in the NHS and the broader health community and will continue to do so in the years ahead through understanding and responding to the needs of managers at all levels in the health sector. The IHM is going through a period of great change, but no greater than the change that, daily, is faced by our managers, and I know that much can and is being done to raise the profile of the Institute and the services it provides to help increase our membership appeal.

Chairman
At the local, Welsh, level, the Institute will be seeking to:
- Develop an education and development plan that offers relevant CPD opportunities;
- Maintain it’s commitment to running an annual member conference;
- Continue to provide a programme of local Branch events that address topical issues;
- Influence the health agenda through contributions to debate, discussion and consultation;
- Respond to the changing demands of our members.
