Practice management was not recognised officially until the new GMS contract of 1991. Before that time, practices could not claim reimbursement (under the old staffing scheme) for the post of practice manager. Since then, the role has changed out of all recognition, placing constant challenges on those in post. This session reviews the current situation for practice management, based on feedback from those attending the session, and considers ways of redefining the role and the associated workload.

John Hutchison from the Grange Group will lead this two day workshop. The aim of the event is to give an introduction to project management for managers who are new to this discipline. The first day will cover the theory and practice and the second day will allow individuals the opportunity to come together to share experiences of what has worked best in practice.
