What is it?
The Institute of Healthcare Management aims to recognise and sustain excellence amongst its membership and those who contribute to healthcare management. It has developed the Fellowship Programme to recognise those who can demonstrate that they are working at a higher level of practice in management.
Fellowship is open to all IHM members who are experienced managers working throughout the healthcare settings, including primary care, secondary care and the independent sector. Applicants need to identify evidence that they are working at a higher level of practice in accordance with more general criteria in areas including managing resources and working across professional and organisational boundaries. The process is designed to assess the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to organise and manage healthcare and to enable the delivery of high quality patient care.
Who can apply?
Fellowship is open to all members of the Institute who have been a full member for not less than two years.
What will the candidate gain?
The successful candidates will be demonstrating excellence and that they are practising at a higher level of management. Therefore the candidate will have tangible evidence to present as a personal mark of quality and will be entitled to use the designatory letters FIHM.
IHM undertook a review of the criteria and process in 2007, and will be piloting the new fellowship scheme in 2008/09 click here for details
