The IHM Recognition scheme was introduced in 2002 as part of the expansion of the Institute’s education and development activity. It allows providers of events, learning materials and other development activities to demonstrate professional recognition of their activity through a “badging” process. The Recognition scheme is primarily designed for events (conferences, workshops, short courses) and learning materials that do not lead to a formally assessed qualification. It is based on the understanding that short informal programmes can be highly developmental and merit recognition of their benefit to individual participants' Continuous Professional Development.
Recognised programmes, learning sets, or events must meet various criteria, ensuring:
- Quality Assurance methods are present, including feedback and evaluations.
- They are suited to the target audience and have, if applicable, good selection criteria.
- Content is relevant to the audience and current healthcare climate.
For events:
- Appropriate facilities are provided at the locations used (including health and safety issues and access for people with physical disabilities).
- Credible and experienced speakers are used and supporting materials are provided where necessary.
- Where appropriate, a mixture of activities and learning methods are employed.
For learning materials:
- Credible and experienced authors and tutors are employed.
- Students have access to support.
- Appropriate media are used.
