Better Patient Care through Best Professional Standards

Assessment arrangements

How you will be assessed

Assessment for milestones is based on a written record of your application of study, reflection and learning as applied to work based projects and objectives. It is integrative in nature and this is reflected in the assessment criteria which we have developed and is illustrated in each of the Milestone summaries.

Pass mark

A pass mark of 40% is required in order to achieve the credits associated with each milestone.

Assignments

Each milestone assessment has a familiar framework which is echoed throughout the milestones whilst keeping a specific context for the specific area of study.

Our approach results in a high degree of flexibility over the specific area of application which will be chosen by you, perhaps in conjunction with your line manager and certainly with your service objectives in this area. We offer this flexibility in order to allow you to tailor the task to your specific work area and your organisational objectives.

You should anticipate submitting a piece of original work of 3,000 words in length.

Assessment process

Once submitted this work will be marked by one of our tutors and for quality assurance purposes submissions will be second marked by different tutors. A further selection of scripts will be submitted by us to our external assessor who will provide feedback on the consistency and quality of the marking and the content of the assignments.

The IHM assessment board will consider all of the marks arising from the work submitted from this programme periodically throughout the year and they will confirm the marks and record them.

It is very important even at this stage of your interest to note that very strict rules apply to non submission of work by the due date and that you may only be referred once in a submission.

Full details of the marking system are in the handbook for this programme. Your rights to appeal against the process or to complain are set out in documents which you may download.
