A welcome from the Surgeon General
"As Surgeon General, and thus the professional head of the Defence Medical Services, and as a Member of the IHM, I am delighted to support the formation of a Special Interest Group for the Armed Forces.
I see the IHM providing the opportunity for Health Managers within the Armed Forces to become aware of best practice within civilian medical services in order that they can adapt and apply such knowledge both in peacetime roles and within the unique circumstances found on operations.
I also hope that Military members of the IHM can add our experience to the body of knowledge represented by the Institute. In conjunction with these aims I hope that membership of the Institute will further encourage military health managers to obtain relevant and transferable health management qualifications.
In order to be effective, there is a need for Armed Forces members of the Institute to be able to collectively debate how military practice differs from civilian practice, how best civilian practice can be transferred to the Armed Forces medical services and where we can contribute to civilian practice. A Special Interest Group will facilitate such debate and enhance the benefit we receive from membership of the Institute."

Surgeon General
The special interest group for the armed forces is a new development to reflect the increased membership of IHM from the armed forces over the last few years.
SIG's are formal parts of IHM Governance and the first stage in setting this up will be through the fomation of a Steering Group. If you're a member of the armed forces with a particular interest in assisting in the formation of this SIG, then please contact Chris Malpass at chris.malpass@pathwaysgroup.co.uk
